Hello everyone and happy Fall to all! I hope you are enjoying the rain as

much as I am. I was glad to see it arrive and my water bill will be so much

smaller for the next few months! The year has been a warm one to be sure

but now, as they say, it’s finally “sweater weather”.

We have our Fall events all lined up and you all are doing so well in

adapting to our registration times. We are staggering them to try and give

more people the opportunity to sign-up for our lunches, which so far this

year, have all been sell outs! We appreciate your enthusiasm and hope we

can continue to dazzle you with what I consider a big learning curve in

cooking! The website has been updated to show you the line up of our food

events through the end of December. And, you can always see what’s next

at the Friend’s Kiosk at the Senior Center.

As a reminder, we want to inform you that the Friends established a

scholarship fund this year with the Senior Center to allow those folks that

might want to take a class or participate in a day trip but maybe just can’t

squeeze it into the budget. We all are feeling the pain of rising costs in just

about everything but we don’t want you to feel left out. Ask at the front desk

if you think you’d like to apply. Confidentiality is important to us so mums

the word!

The Friends will hold their yearly elections next month. The date is still to

be determined. However, we have been understaffed on the board for

years and would really like to have a few more members at large so we can

be aligned with our by-laws. We are looking for 3 people who are current

members of the Friends. You don’t need any special skills which will

become evident should you join us. We meet the first Thursday of each

month and we would love to have some fresh faces and ideas to help

make us even better in 2026! If you are interested, please leave your name

and phone number at the front desk.

Our food events for October are on the 21 st and the 28 th ! The first is a

pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, a bag of chips and since it’s National

Apple Pie Day, a big slice of that with ice cream! Next, we will have Italian

sheet pan subs, potato salad and a pickle and since this day is National

Chocolate Day, decadent gooey brownies! And, since we are so close to

Halloween, we will also have a Halloween Hat contest on the 28 th as well!

So, find an old hat, give it your best Halloween makeover and we will award

prizes for the most creative, funny, scariest or silly hats. It will be fun!

Please join in!

The Board has decided that after our last scheduled Bingo Bash event on

November 7 th , we will no longer be offering lunch prior to the bingo. We had

hopes that if we offered lunch more people might stay for bingo but sadly,

that hasn’t been the case. This is also a special event because we are

asking everyone who comes whether for lunch or bingo or both, to bring a

new teddy bear that will be donated to the Mac Police Department and

Juliett’s House to help comfort and calm children as needed.

Don’t forget that the Friends now has their own website! You can find us at

Have a great October everyone!

Karen O.
