April showers bring May flowers! My tea rose bush got so heavy with
blooms that it fell over! I guess it didn’t help that I hadn’t pruned it back and
it was over 6 feet tall. Lessons learned. Ok, before I get into this month’s
news, I have a correction from last month. It seems it was being interpreted
by some that the Friends was footing the bill for the new carpeting and
hopefully new kitchen flooring for the Senior Center. Not so. This is strictly
a city-paid project and is not coming out of our funds. I guess when I stated
that “we had many irons in the fire” it was thought that we were paying for
it. Thinking back, I guess that I was perhaps speaking in the “royal we”
vernacular combining their projects with our projects as both our interests
result in a fresher, newer, safer and more attractive senior center for you all
to enjoy.
Speaking of new and fresher things, the Friends has purchased new
furniture for the lobby area. We will be getting a new couch, two love seats
and a coffee table in the art gallery area and two comfy chairs near the
puzzle table. These should arrive sometime between now and late June.
We are also waiting for a revised estimate on new classroom and dining
room chairs. We still have many items on our senior center and Friends
wish list and hopefully, we will be able to fulfill a lot of them between now
and the end of the year.
Our events for the month will include a chicken Alfredo lunch on the 12th
and chicken tortilla soup and sandwich on the 26th . Fundraiser bingo will be
on Friday the 29th .
Ralph Kraft our resident glass artist has begun work on the Wortman Park
Art Gallery sign and it will be a stunner! So that will be very exciting to be
sure.
You are probably aware that the center will be closed from May 15th thru
the 25th (Memorial Day) for the carpet laying.
