Hello everyone! I don’t know about you but man, have I been enjoying
seeing everything bursting out with leaves and flowers all over town! It
gives me hope that with everything going on in our world right now, nature
has a way of lifting our spirits with blooms and blossoms! Bring it on mother
nature!
We have lots of irons in the fire these days! The senior center will close
down in May for almost a week while new carpeting gets installed. We are
also hoping for some new flooring in the kitchen by the end of summer. The
Friends will be buying some new furniture for the lobby which will include a
new sofa, two loveseats and two new easy chairs for you to lounge in. We
also are working with glass master Ralph Kraft in designing and installing a
Wortman Park Art Gallery sign. New classroom and dining room chairs will
be ordered shortly. The old ones have served us well but go they must! We
hope to have some other projects come into focus for the rest of this year
and will keep you posted on them as they crystallize. These things are only
possible because of the generosity of donors and patrons like you!
We have firmed up our FMSC lunches for the summer and we will be
having several new and hopefully exciting menus for you. You can preview
them at the front desk of the center. Just ask to see the upcoming events
notebook for the Friends. We also will be hosting the Puzzle Palooza in
June, free snack bag give-a-ways at one of the concerts in the park events,
and our annual free ice cream social. Most of these events will be in the
Parks and Rec Guide.
Reminders for you to consider, the Friends is considering raising the price
of our lunches from $5 to $7 for non-members. Current members will
continue to pay only 5. FMSC membership is only $15 per year for singles
and only $20 for households so if you enjoy our lunches and want to
continue to just pay $5, you might want to consider joining today. Also, we
have a scholarship fund for people on fixed incomes that might want to take
a class or take a senior center sponsored day trip. You will have to fill out a
short form, and your information is kept confidential.
That’s it for now! Keep smiling, and in the words of jolly old England in
1939, “Keep calm and carry on!”
Karen
