Hello everyone and welcome to our very first website newsletter!

We figured it was time we stepped boldly into the 21st century and get with the program. For those of you who might not have a computer, we will continue to print off hard copies that can be picked up at the Senior Center near the Friends Kiosk.

So, the biggest news is, of course, our website spooling up! We set our start date to be by the end of July and if you’re reading this on your computer, we obviously were successful! Many thanks go to Michael Bunnell for working with us and for us in getting this project up and running.

The website has a welcome page, newsletter, upcoming events, and you will be able to make donations directly! We may add a few more elements down the road but this is what we are shooting for at the start.

The Friends are participating in this year’s Summer of Fun through the Parks and Rec Department. Our first event was in June where we sponsored the Jigsaw Puzzle Palooza! We bought 8 identical 500 piece puzzles and refreshments for the puzzlers. Many thanks go to The Diner for giving us a $40 gift card for the lucky winners! We had two hours to accomplish the task but the winning team of puzzlers finished in an hour and 41 minutes! Congrats to Team Tigers of Newby Elementary School!

We held our “Who Am I?” contest in July where we collected pictures of our participants when they were between the ages of 4 and 8. We then took pictures of them now and people who played had to match the “then” and the “now”. It was a lot of fun and the winner that matched the most correct photos was awarded a American Eagle silver dollar! Congratulations Sandra Petersen! Many thanks to Denny Magden’s Coin Shop for donating the prize!

Also, as part of the Summer of Fun program, we sponsored a free Ice Cream Social on July 15th which was open to all. Although we didn’t keep official track of how many folks participated, we estimate it was over 130! On July 22nd at the Concert in the Park Series with Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts, we provided 120 snack bags and bottled water to the concert goers. Both of these events were great successes with big turnouts! For August, we are hosting a Cultural Music event of Andean Folk Music at th

e Senior Center on the 19th. We will provide snacks and drinks for this event. Check the Summer of Fun catalog for further details on this event.

For informational purposes, we are providing a notebook that is kept at the front desk of all the rest of our upcoming 2025 food events. You can peruse to see if there are any that really strike your fancy and that you wouldn’t want to miss. However, these are also going to be on our website! I’m very excited and hope you are as well!

We will continue to provide hard copy newsletters at the Friends Kiosk!

Our website address will be: www.friendsofmcminnvillesc.org

Til next time!
